IF YOU’RE BUYING OR SELLING YOUR PARK HOME, ARE YOU AWARE OF WHAT’S HAPPENING ON THE UNDERSIDE OF IT?
As all park homes are supported on a chassis, it is the foundation of the home and is very important to the security, stability and lifespan of the home.
In fact, it is the only part of the entire structure of the home that cannot be replaced. Whilst it may be out of sight…it should really not be out of mind! Especially if you are selling your park home or buying one.
THE STRESSES AND STRAINS ONE’S CHASSIS HAS TO COPE WITH…
As the home becomes older and changes within the home take place the chassis will experience different stresses. Left neglected and unattended the stresses and strains put on it can start to take their toll and potentially affect the lifespan of the home.
The main issues affecting the chassis condition are rust and the supporting structure.
Wear and tear comes with age – once rust corrosion sets in, the chassis metal work and support structure is compromised and there is risk of long term distortion and potential collapse. Signs of rust should be addressed early on to prevent further decay.
Times and fashion change. Over the years we change furniture and add facelifts such as new cladding, roofing, kitchens, bathrooms etc. In doing this we start to change the balance on the support structure and affect weight distribution. This has great impact on support functionality and weight bearing capability of the home.
THE CHASSIS DOESN’T NEED CONSTANT ATTENTION BUT IT IS PRUDENT TO HAVE IT CHECKED IF ANY OF THE FOLLOWING APPLY:
- Your home over 10 years old
- Your home exposed to the elements
- Your home has ill fitting skirting or none at all
- Your home is sited in a vulnerable area (e.g. flooding)
- If you live within 5 miles of the coast
- There have been many additions or alterations (exterior and exterior) to the home since it was new
- The floorboards are creaking or squeaking
KEEPING THE CHASSIS YOUNG AT HEART AND IN FOR THE LONG TERM
Once Park Home Chassis Services has undergone a thorough inspection of the underside of the home we will advise you if any work is required or not, with no obligation to you. Sometimes your home may require some work but not a full chassis refurbishment – we will honestly tell you if so and will address just those issues of concern.
Whether your chassis is issued an immediate clean bill of health, or whether some work or a full chassis refurbishment is carried out, on completion you can rest in the knowledge that your home is safe and in good order.
All PHCS work comes with a 10 year guarantee.
